A fabric is immersed in a basin of salt-saturated
water. The salt rises into the fabric through evaporation and crystallizes above the clay. Due to gravity, salt crystals eventually fall back into
the water and then rise again, forming a life
cycle. When the water evaporates completely,
the life cycle stops, much like our depleting
resources, giving way to a landscape frozen in
time.
Before the mastery of refrigeration, salt was crucial for preserving food items, making it indispensable. Today, it is readily available everywhere at a low
cost, and salt extraction industries are on the rise. Another form of extraction leads
to the emergence of new landscapes. This involves a process in which already refined salt crystallizes again to form an evolving landscape.
